Why English is Important for Your Job

English is not only the language of business, it’s also the language of science and communication. There are a lot of words in English that you probably don’t know and can’t easily find in other languages. We are going to look at how this happens and how we can do something about it.

No matter what language you speak, English is one of the most useful languages in the world. It is spoken by around a billion people and has a rich history. The word “English” comes from the Anglo-Saxon “Anglo-Saxon” language, which was derived from Old Germanic. Today it is spoken by about 438 million people in over 60 countries. And it will continue to be important for many years to come.

The beauty of language is that it’s fluid and dynamic. A language becomes more and more sophisticated as time passes. Yet, even today, there are many words that we cannot translate into our native tongue. This is because they have different meanings across languages. For example, the words ‘bio’ and ‘life’ have different meanings in French than they do in English. English, Spanish, Arabic and many other languages use a different alphabet from the Roman one.

You may be thinking: “English is a second language. Why should I learn it?” Well, the answer is that your English skills are important for you and everyone around you. As a global citizen, English helps you thrive in an increasingly competitive world. There are many countries where speaking English is required to work, or even to get an education. This can be good news if you want to improve your career prospects or travel more freely. See also, why is language important.

The Importance of Learning English

1. English is the Language of International Communication

English is the language of diplomacy, business and education. If you speak well in English then employers will be more willing to hire you. Many international companies also have a local presence based on product localization for national laws/regulations as well as workplace practices that are not always consistent globally (e.g., having regular staff meetings only in English). How? By recruiting experts from various nations across world wide who can translate documents into their native languages, but whose first language is English. An example of this would be a local company based in the United States looking to recruit internationally within their industry, but with ‘sole staff’ who are native English speakers able and willing to serve as an interpreter of documents written by these experts in-country.

2. English gives access to more entertainment and more access to the Internet

The entertainment in English is a rich and varied experience. There are some great series on DVD (e.g., The Walking Dead) and Netflix has great series to view if you have the bandwidth/availability to watch what they offer, while Youtube allows access the more contemporary music through videos uploaded by many different artists around the world across genres such as pop rock, dance tracks or even country ballads sung in English too!

3. English makes it easier to travel

The importance of being able to speak English is also highlighted by a country that places little emphasis on speaking English, like Japan. For many countries in Europe and Asia it used to be the case that one really needed fluency in both their native languages as well as sufficiently proficient understanding of another language -probably German or French- such was their reliance on a formal diplomatic conference with these governments around world (or when entering into agreements) and the desire for more (or equal) trade and assistance. A good example of the latter is with Britain for many years when it was decided that out nation had been relatively uninvolved in their African Empire (when compared to other European powers) so there has always been an emphasis on international affairs involving a formal diplomatic meeting directly between foreign representatives as well as long standing language barriers which could seriously impede progress within discussions on matters affecting both parties involved. 4. English can make you ‘smarter’

Aside from the immediate communication benefits, those in England who believe that upon graduating they no longer need to learn any form of English and can now just sit back without having to prove their proficiency -are actually mistaken. Although it’s great if people are only learning one language it takes an awful lot of effort for a non-native speaker not also be adding language skills as well. It may help if there is some sort of straightforward conversation/interaction which allows for one to become more accustomed with those other than just their family and close friends, but without such a set of exchanges, it’s almost impossible for someone who is not fluent in the language. Learning another language or at least acquiring some sort of passable level of proficiency has been shown statistically to be an excellent way over time to further increase productivity (or even jobs) because as much work can get done when there are more proficient and productive employees around – it is also a beneficial outcome for all involved because of the opportunities to increase clientele.

All in all, if you want to get a job in England, you will need to be able to speak English.

So how can you learn English?

There are many ways to improve your English, but it’s important that they all fit into the way you learn best. This is why it’s important that you don’t rush out and start learning right away without first deciding on what approach works best for you. If this sounds like something that could help then maybe the first thing to do is…

Watch TV shows with English commentary. This will obviously help you understand and learn more about areas that are relevant in modern day, but it also teaches different rules of grammar which may not be as apt for improving your vocabulary, so while on this tip I cannot stress enough how important all aspects of language learning must fit together.
