LEARNING A SECOND LANGUAGE AND WHAT IT MEANS TO ME

One of the most amazing things about my time here at WGU is that I can finally see all the words on a page and speak them out loud, without having to look at them. It’s like learning how to read all over again, but for writing. Since I started in November, I’ve learned Spanish, Italian, and German. But this past month has been really special.

A lot of people dream of learning a second language. But in today’s world, when you learn a new language, it does not necessarily mean that you are making an effort to travel or live abroad. There are a few reasons why learning a second language can be beneficial to your daily life. See also, learn English.

I’m sure you have heard the saying “A person’s second language is their native tongue.” This is an interesting concept, and this article explores why it’s true. It looks at how learning a second language is similar to learning a foreign language, what the benefits are of knowing a second language, and how you can improve your speaking skills by learning another language.

If you’re thinking about learning a second language, let us give you some insights. We have compiled a list of useful resources for English speakers who want to learn another language.

Why is it important to know more than one language

Learning another language expands your personality and makes you more competitive in a global society. It also is an additional skill that employers look for and it’s an asset when self-sabotaging with languages. This can be best applied to learning Spanish or Italian, as those are the most spoken tongues in North America (In fact, I have found out recently that 74% of Google searches involve English).

It is never too late  to learn another language and there is always a way to improve. For example, I started learning Italian when I was forty-six years old because one of my friends (Italian) recommended it as an idea that made sense with the fact that French naturalised citizens were herding us (I didn’t know they were coming). So this makes me better prepared now than before their appointment!

How can you improve your spoken skills by learning another language?

Learning a second language does not fix your pronunciation. It takes years to master the art of speaking another language correctly and is called learning other accents in English (For example, Italian being pronounced differently than French or Spanish). The following are some quick strategies that can improve spoken skills: Would you like to learn more about these subjects? Go to the articles and click on  Link. I see the humanistic value of learning another language. Teaching does not afford one as many options for self-improvement and reconciliation as do other activities like painting, exercise or tai chi (Yes, study Japanese!). Language skills are part of an identity that others cannot easily duplicate our knowledge in academic circles because they lack the opportunity.

What are the benefits of learning a second language

1. It improves your memory

What is memory?  Memory is a phenomenon that we must use the brain and nerve system to remember. Many people don’t realize how important this capability actually is in daily life (especially, if our main goal of learning English would be because it “helps us” instead of just for enjoyment). In order words…

What can you do with an improved memory? Take receipt payments fluently, tactfully talk about things at home as well as in a meeting, carry out negotiations more successfully.

2. Enhances your ability to multitask

Multitasking provides an important advantage for those studying English, especially because the vocabulary is so vast that one can never foresee everything connected to it.  Think about all possibilities in a situation… People are constantly focusing on many things at a time and taking care of complex tasks as well ( Multitasking means being able to complete two or more activities simultaneously without sacrificing attention.)

3. Improves your performance in other academic areas

Studies have concluded that, speaking more than one language greatly enhances the performance of all skills related to this polygenic aspect.  If you think about it… Is there an argument against learning a second or third language? If studying entails using different parts of the brain hot, listening involves preserving sensory receptors (skipped some steps) put together and even having discussed in case studies: preparing for public exams or certification tests mainly help us with abstract matters like logic and mechanics.  (Unless you are a masochist that loves pain , which is another story). See also, listening to English is a skill.

As I mentioned above, one can never foresee all the different aspects of foreign languages connected to them.

4. Increases your ability to learn useful things in any area of life –

this includes learning information or trying various strategies related to yourself We have already covered most common benefits aimed at academic sectors (above). The following benefits are also important as they relate to your overall knowledge and experience on a physical and/or intellectual level.

All in all, learning a second or third language improves your cognitive abilities.  These include:

– improved memory and attention

– higher level of reasoning and problem solving skills

– increase in general knowledge

– increased intelligence levels (based on IQ tests) – increased creativity   – better understanding of others, their thoughts and feelings  – increases in the ability to learn from mistakes   – makes you more sociable and outgoing  (it’s not just something taught in classrooms)

5. It makes you more interesting and attractive

People like others that speak their native language, and it can be observed on the dating scene as well where the “those who look alike” rule applies (as long as they understand each other). Being open to learning a second or third language can also increase work opportunities if your company deals with international clients/suppliers.

All in all, the main reasons why people choose to learn a second or third language are to:

– increase their knowledge in various fields (academic, business, sports, etc.) – improve their life skills and personal growth – be more confident and outgoing   – gain a competitive edge in the job market (or just for fun)
